There is a parking area just off Usery Pass road.
When I started up the mountain, the sun was behind that other mountain.
That's Pass Mountain over there.
A horse trail also goes around Lone Mountain. Here's a rider.
The trail is well-constructed and easy to follow.
A rest area part way up.
Rest area with Pass Mountain in the back ground.
I call this "Rock Henge". It isn't just funny. Somebody put some thought into it. Seven stones surrounding three stones. Try and tell me that isn't significant.
You can see the Fountain Hills fountain in the distance. It's the world's largest fountain.
Red Mountain. It doesn't look very red from this angle at this time of day, though.
The fourntain again.
That's the Superstition Mountains behind the cactus. You can see Weaver's Needle to the left of the Superstitions.
A clear vew of the Superstitions.
Looking to the northwest, across Bulldog Canyon OHV area.
Stewart Mountain is on the left. On the horizon on the right is Four Peaks.
The fountain only runs for 15 minutes every hour.
The sun sets.
The lighting is magical at this time of day.
I take so many pictures of the same thing.
I'm on Lone Mountain, looking over at the peak of One Mountain. No kidding. Whoever named these two was a funny guy.
The sun continues to sink behind the mountains.

The sun is gone. That's the Usery Mountains in the foreground.
Not a good picture, but it was getting dark and I was hurrying. I wanted to get a picture of that plane before it went behind the mountain. As you can see, I am standing on ground much higher than the plane is flying.
The plane on the other side of the mountain. I lost some time removing the polarizing filter from my camera, so the plane is pretty far away by now but still very low.
The plane seems to be headed for the Bush Highway bridge over the Salt River. That's Stewart Mountain.
The city lights are showing up.
Santan Mountains on the horizon. The bright lights in the foreground are at a shooting range.
Fountain Hills lights.
Back at the parking area, and it's pretty dark now.

When I parked near Lone Mountain, the parking area was already in the shadow of the Usery Mountains. I raced the sun up Lone Mountain to get pictures of the sunset. I managed to take a few pictures on the way up, but it was too dark for pictures on the way down.

BTW, I figured out that 10 seconds between fixes does not work for logging my hikes. I set the i-gotU back to 6 second intervals and the track looks much better.
