The first mile or so of this walk follows the same route of the previous walk I published (Naish Hill)
It starts by going through the grounds of Lacock abbey
and through fields known locally as the mead.

The restoration of the Wilts and Berks canal is coming on quite well at this point

A circular spill weir - to keep the water in the canal at the correct level
IPG_110426_059
Pewsham locks - still a lot of work to be done before any boats will pass through
At the end of the towpath the footpath goes over the bridge and off towards Derry Hill
Another view of Pewsham locks and basin - taken from the bridge
A view of Naish hill just after leaving the canal. Later - after leaving Nockett hill - the walk will join onto the track just below the tree line
At the bottom of Derry Hill now, the entrance to Pewsham House
This is the bridleway we go up - towards Nocketts hill

Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Lacock
This chapel, across the river at the foot of Bowden Hill, was opened in 1863 at a ceremony attended by 700 people, who afterwards took tea in the adjacent field. In the 20th century the congregation declined and in the 1970s the Methodists held their services in the United Reform Church in the village.
