The North Downs are the chalk highland along the north edge of Kent, through Surrey and into Hampshire
On the North Downs Way (NDW), a trail designated in 1978, running 131 miles from Farnham to Dover.
Sunshine coming through the tree canopy
Dorking was a market town, stated in 1378 to be from time immemorial
From the NDW in the Guildford direction
I love that yew tree!
The train route between Guildford and Dorking is very picturesque
...and just have to take another photo
Looking up towards St Barnabas Church, Ranmore
And a closer view
Not for me though. Their back gardens are tiny.
Phew!
Another view of that same slope
Dates back to Saxon times. Much of the church was restored in Victorian times. There are some unusual carved heads around the porch door including those of King John and Archbishop Stephan Langton. The Evelyn Chapel in the church contains the tomb of John Evelyn, 1620-1706, the diarist.
The church is only open on Sunday afternoons from Easter to the end of September, for security reasons.
It used to be a lovely old farmhouse with a yard and surrounded by old barns. Some have now been demolished, which must give beautiful views along the valley, but sorry, owners, to me, it now looks so bleak.
Fungi
And closer
From near Abinger Roughs
And another look

This is such a shame!
