[EN] The highlight of this trip was a visit to the famous Crater Lake National Park. From there we drove north to Bend, Oregon visiting parts of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument.

[EN] Trees of Stone. Lava Cast Forest was formed about 6,000 years ago when slowly flowing lava from vents of the Newberry volcano flooded a ponderosa pine forest. The hot lava enveloped the trees and cooled around them forming a mold. Trees were burned to ash or charcoal. New pines grow on the lava.
[PL] Drzewa z Kamienia. Ten Kamienny Las był utworzony około 6 tysięcy lat temu, kiedy wolno płynąca lawa z wulkanu Newberry zalała las z żółtych sosen (Pinus ponderosa). Gorąca lawa zastygała wokół drzew tworzą jakby formy. Wewnątrz tych form drzewa wypalały się na popiół lub węgiel drzewny, który dawno temu zanikł. Nowe sosny wyrosły na lawie.

[EN] La Quinta Motel in Bend, Oregon. We went downtown for dinner to Pine Tavern, recommended by the La Quinta receptionist. It is an excellent restaurant - it was almost full on a Tuesday evening.
