Cathy at the Ranger Station, everybody raised thier eyebrows with my itinerary
Boots on at 5:45
Sherri Ann at Matt take off for the Hunt Trail
Trail Head, 15 degrees C wind O meter per second
Gradual nice walk
I take self portraits just to prove I did the hike
Could be the very bottom of the Abol Slide
Looking down Abol Slide
Grade is getting steeper
Morning sun over Maine
Using arms and legs to climb
Looking up Abol
Temp 10C wind 4ms
Only another 1000 feet
View to west Maine has some great hills
Nice rock
Tablelands in sight
Self portrait
Trail, no problem keeping the ATV's off this trail
Tablelands
Baxter Peak Cutoff west
Saddle Trail temp 7C wind 14ms, I'm starting to chill
Hamlin Peak
Baxter Peak trying to warm up temp 7C wind 20 ms, I'm freezing
Baxter peak west
Start of the Appalacian Trail
Pamola, Dudley Trail, along edge
Trail to South Peak
South Peak in background temp 8C wind 18 ms
Start of the Knife Edge
Chimney Pond, yes I'm on the edge, same 6' behind me
Hamilin Peak
Knife Edge looking back at South Peak
Resting Knife edge, there's only a few spots to relax like this
Blue trail marks seem to lead over edges, you very quickly learn to follow them
Pamola with hikers
Slopes on both sides of the knife edge are almost straight down and are impossible to traverse
The most difficult climb just west of Pamola, should have bouldering experience for this gully in the Knife Edge
Some in this group did not look too excited, there are hiking poles all over the place, if you let it go gravity and wind send it on a quick trip down
Yes that's the trail, on the lower left is the previous group climbing up the other side
Pamola east temp 14C wind 8ms
Great bouldering on the Dudley
Yes thats the trail
Most of these rocks are as big as cars
Basin Ponds
Chimney Pond
Water is crystal but you're not allowed to touch it except for drinking
Chimney Pond Knife edge and South Peak in the background
Chimney Pond Trail
still smiling....its does look sort of contrived
Katahdin in the distance
Tacky bear
