The First Battle of Camden was fought on August 16, 1780. British forces under Lieutenant General Charles, Lord Cornwallis routed the American forces of Major General Horatio Gates about six miles (10 km) north of Camden, South Carolina, strengthening the British hold on the Carolinas following the capture of Charleston.

[EN] We drove first a bit north and east from Columbia to Camden, a site of two battles during the American Revolution. Next, we continued east and south to visit the Edisto Beach State Park and the nearby Serpentarium. From there, we drove to Charleston.
