[EN] Museum in the old Ice House. Until ice was produced on the Island, it was imported by ship in winter from the Northeast and kept for summer covered with sawdust.

[EN] Dungeness entrance. James Oglethorpe first built on Cumberland Island in 1736 a hunting lodge called Dungeness. The next Dungeness was designed by Revolutionary War hero (and a friend of the Polish General Thaddeus Kosciusko) Nathaneal Greene. His widow Catherine Greene (later Miller) built a four-story tabby mansion in 1803. This house burned in 1866. In the 1880s the property was purchased by Thomas M. Carnegie, brother of Andrew Carnegie. The 59-room Queen Anne style mansion and grounds were completed after Carnegie's death in 1886. His wife Lucy continued to live at Dungeness. By this time, the Carnegies owned 90% of the island. Dungeness was destroyed in a fire in 1959, alleged to be arson. The ruins and the land owned by the Carnegies were acquired by the Park Service in 1972.

[EN] Henry Lee III (29 January 1756 – 25 March 1818) was an early American patriot who served as the ninth Governor of Virginia and as the Virginia Representative to the United States Congress. During the American Revolution, Lee served as a cavalry officer in the Continental Army and earned the name Light Horse Harry. He was also the father of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. He died in Dungeness, but later his body was moved t Virginia.

[EN] There was no electricity available on the campsite. However, as the standard battery in our Asus EEE PC 1000HE (running Windows 7 Ultimate) lasts about 7 hours, it was sufficient for the four days we spent in Sea Camp. Every day we connected our i-gotU GT-600 GPS tracker by Mobile Action Technology to the netbook to transfer the GPS track and to clear the memory. There was no Internet connection, but it is not necessary to transfer the GPS tracks.
