[EN] Fort Pulaski was constructed in 1847 from 25 million bricks. When the Union forces attacked the fort with new rifled guns on April 11, 1862, the massive walls were breached very quickly and the fort surrendered after 30 hours of bombardment. However, the defenses of Savannah held until Christmas Day, 1864.
