Part of the Cotswold Way walked on the morning of July 30th 2009. Actually began the walk in Dursley and did the stiff climb from the town up Stinchcombe hill but the GPS obviously didn't kick in until the top of the hill. Lovely walk around the golf course with panoramas across the Severn into Wales. Then through woods and fields to North Nibley with a very (!!) stiff climb up the hill and then up the 120+ steps up the Tyndale Monument (in memory of William Tyndale burned at the stake for having the nerve to translate the Bible into English). The height of the monument explains the sudden spike in altitude to 757 feet. Then an easy walk through woods to Wotton-Under-Edge. Just before the town, the walk opens onto the Jubilee Clump - a stone walled enclosure and group of pines planted in honour of Queen Victoria. The town itself is very charming with proper shops (great second hand bookshop and tea room). The GPS gets confused while I'm in the tea shop. The walk ends at the bus stop where I got the 310 back to the car in Dursley. A pleasant day out...
