This train climbs up to over 2000 meters in about 4 hours! Its one of the last train of its kind in Asia!

So our journey begins... choo chooo!
These are the famous taiwanese beetle nuts which are chewed by e.g. taxi drivers or construction workers. Chewing it will make you feel more awake but everyone knows that it can cause mouth cancer!

We are still on the train...
Chau and me had to switch trains because a part of the railway is still damaged by a typhoon one year ago.
Look at that! Another couple of years and it will be completely overgrown by plants!
Those are not ripe yet! Still on the way to the other train...
Chau is having fun. Finally we entered the new train and continued our journey to Alishan
We arrived at Fenchihu with our new train and had an half hour break before continuing to Alishan. Fenchihu is famous for its Lunch Box which is being sold by older women to the passengers of the trains.
Its feeding time!
The picture is a little grey because we are in the clouds already at 1500 meters!
Now you really can see we are in the clouds! Luckily its not as hot there as in Taipei! I guess its about 25 degress Celsius there during daytime and maybe 15 degress the night. That is much more pleasant than the 35 degress in Taipei!
While we were checking out several hotels we saw those cute figures
This is how the Alishan Mountain Train looked many decades years ago!
She is singing in the rain...just singing in the rain...what a glorious feeling...
she's happy again...
Goretex is nothing compared to that! ;)
With her newly bought Jack Wolfskin Goretex Jacket.
HAHA! She should have bought water proof trousers and shoes too! :)
This is the commercial for that lunch box I previously mentioned.
We left the hotel at 3am and took a taxi to the beginning of the trail. 5 km by foot later we arrived at 1900 meters. I had to run the last 500 meters because we were running out of time!
Wow! What a well earned picture! :P
And I even didn't break a sweat! ;)
Here you can easily see that the air is full of flying insects. They are glowing beautifully in the sunlight.
Wow! You can even see the reflection on the thin layer of water on the wood!

Chau and I took a spontaneous trip to Alishan because I felt unsatisfied. I had to cancel the Yushan hike and the weather was not stable during most of the weekends. This trip was a good ending for our month in Taiwan.

We are looking to fly there again in 2 years ;)
