Looking in an Easterly direction towards Hamworthy and Poole.
It is from this direction that 34067 Battle of Britain Class Steam Locomotive "Tangmere" came on its return trip to London Waterloo.
View looking West towards Wareham.
This steel viaduct is very low, allowing only about 2m clearance above the water at high tide and not much more even at low tide. Under the viaduct is a further inlet within Poole Harbour towards Upton
Another view of Hamworthy Viaduct
Again looking West towards Wareham
A similar Westward looking view to some others in this set
Swans have moved in here looking for food. There are easily caught carbs in the harbour which is very shallow.
A limited amount of Boat and Swan activity.
My wife Tricia was in charge of the "stills" while I was in charge of the "movies". Fortunately the tide moves very little so I'm in no danger of getting wet at all.
This is the return trip from Swanage to London headed by Tangmere. The down trip was on Saturday May 2nd. This location is in Poole Harbour at Rockley between Holton Heath and Poole Stations.
The rear of the train is attended by this Class 47 Diesel locomotive 47245. This shot is just on the Poole side of Hamworthy viaduct as the train continues on it's journey via Bournemouth, Southampton and Basingstoke to London.
The area of Arne is on the South side of Poole Harbour and contains a considerable area devoted o conservation and nature. The RSPB has a reserve here and there are many bird and deer hides. Access is only possible from Wareham.
Another view towards Arne looking south across Poole Harbour.
Arne has several areas of Special Scientific Intertest including an RSPB reserve, Middlebere Common with several Bird and Deer hides and several other walks on the peninsular
