![[EN] Memorial to the Mexican Martyrs of the Cristero War (1926‒1929). It was a rebellion against the anti-clerical Socialist Mexican Government. About 90,000 people were killed in this rebellion, many of them in mass executions by the secret police forces of the government. On May 21, 2000 Pope John Paul II canonized a group of 25 priest that were executed by the Mexican Government frequently without a trial. An additional group of 13 martyrs was beatified in 2005.
